I'm down another 1.2 pounds! I swear, it is by the shear grace of God the past few weeks that I am still losing weight because I have been HORRIBLE at tracking what I eat (a major essential on WW) and not so good at the treadmill either. We have, however, been taking advantage of the nice days and doing outdoor walks. Plus, my child is 27 pounds so it's sort of like I lift weights all day. :) I haven't taken my measurements in a few weeks because they weren't changing a ton, but I think I'll try to resume that next week to get an update.
Down 12 pounds in as many weeks. YAY!
Things have been fairly crazy lately, or so they've seemed. So then it only makes sense for all the stars to align just so and kick us while we're down.
C-man has another ear infection. A double this time. The poor child. Something just seemed a bit off again. Then he got a fever and began tugging on his ears again - the telltale sign in the Ran house that things are about to hit the fan. He was flushed and warm when I picked him up from daycare on Friday and was blah all day on Saturday (he took almost 6 hours of naps!). We decided to take him in to the pediatrician on Sunday morning. He was mis.er.able. in the waiting room, and his temp came in at 103.7 so we knew baby love wasn't feeling so hot. Sure enough, a little peeksy revealed a double infection. Well, truth be told, it is probably the one from 2 weeks ago that just never healed with the amoxicillin.
He's on something stronger now, and has a pretty nice amount of Tylenol and Motrin in him, too. Seth is home from school with him today because, as of this morning, he still has a 103 degree fever. After an hour of solid crying, Seth finally got him to fall asleep in his arms. It makes me heart hurt just thinking of how much pain he must be in. I made another appointment because they freaked me out with all this "ruptured-eardrum-might-need-an IV-we'll-want-to-check-his-ears-in-4 weeks-to-make-sure-he's-hearing-okay-over-the-fluid" talk. Seriously, people, you're about to make me lose my marbles. Looks like tubes could be in our future.
On the upside, Seth said his temp was down to 98.8 after his nap, so we're praying the antibiotics are finally kicking in!
So long for now...until our next adventure. :)
I didn't get to do the measurements AGAIN....shoot! I wasn't going to weigh in at the meeting today because I didn't feel like I really lost weight (as always, some days during the week I'm down, then some back up - it goes back to that whole don't-weigh-yourself-everyday thing). But I sucked it up and weighed in anyway...and I lost 1.8 pounds this week!! I didn't get the official poundage on the home scale (which is the one I normally use for my "official" blog post weight ins), but it is almost always better than at WW, so I'm pumped! In all, I'm at 11 lost pounds since mid-January!
Last night, Carter woke up in the middle of the night fussing and didn't want to go right back to sleep. This isn't THAT out of the ordinary for us (probably at least once every two weeks) so we didn't think much of it.
But I just felt his mouth, and sure enough, he got another tooth. That makes seven! It is the top left one beside his two middle teeth.
Pretty soon, he'll be eating corn on the cob!
YES! Spring is FINALLY here. I think I had a tinge of that seasonal affective disorder...the winter, while fun for a bit, gets old quickly. I don't love being stuck inside while it's cold outside, and I realize summer (and 90 degree weather) comes quickly in central PA...so I like to enjoy spring as much as possible. And, boy, am I glad it is here!!!
I've made myself a handy-dandy little checklist of things I'd like to do this spring (either me or collectively as a household):
- Lose 10 more pounds. I've already lost 11, so 10 more before summer arrives would be nice. I hope to not stop there, but we're aiming for attainable right now. :)
- Plan Carter's first birthday party - SO excited about this!!
- Play outside/spend time outside with Carter and Seth as much as feasibly possible.
- Stress less.
- Spring clean...like really spring clean.
- Wash the curtains in my living room.
- Take a day trip (or two) for a picnic or some other fun outdoor activity.
- Paint the shed door and trim and maybe finish painting the fence. Maybe.
- Re-paint the chiminea on the deck.
- Take the Christmas lights down off our bushes out front. What?!? I'm just being honest. At least they haven't been turned on since January 1.
I think that is a pretty good start for now! I sure hope I can meet goal #4 with all that painting. :)
Happy Spring!!
The little stinker seems to have finally realized that crawling on the knees is fun, too! He has done a few "crawls" (as opposed to army crawling, which he is a pro at) for the past two or three weeks, but we were waiting for it to be a bit more consistent. FINALLY, the past two days, he's been doing it more and more. Today, Seth bribed him with something he wanted and he crawled (on his knees) the entire way around the chair to get it (that mean daddy was dragging it like a compass around in a big circle while sitting in a swivel chair). We were so proud!!! Of course, my camera was nowhere handy. And yesterday when he did it outside on the deck, I THOUGHT I was filming, but alas, I didn't have it on video mode. Blonde moment.
We're so proud of you, dude!
In the past two weeks, the little guy has sprouted three new teeth, with a new one coming in yesterday! It seems like they are coming much faster now, and we can see more than are on the cusp of coming in. I feel like he's going to have a full mouth of teeth by his first birthday.
I miss those baby gums, but he does look precious with pearly whites. :)
It's still Wednesday, right?! I feel like I almost lost track. :)
Ok, so...technically, I didn't lose any weight this week. Darn it. But, I didn't necessarily expect to, either. Aside from the sickness that has taken ahold of this household and the obvious lack of exercise on my part due to the "on-death's-doorstep" feeling, I am also on two antibiotics - both which say right on the package "watch your diet closely while on this antibiotic due to weight gain" and "may cause you to retain water."
Um, bummer. Because all of those things combined? Not so good.
However, I didn't GAIN, which is fab. I stayed exactly the same to the point at home. I wasn't going to weigh in at the meeting to avoid the dread of a plus weight, but I thought ah, what the heck, and jumped on...and on their scale, I lost .2.
In all, I've lost 10 pounds so far and a bunch of inches all over (no details this week). My bridesmaid dress for one of my best friend's wedding came today, and oh my word, it is huge. And I mean huge. Good for my self-esteem. Not so good for the altering bill. Oh well, I'LL TAKE IT!
My baby boy hardly even looks like a baby anymore! I seriously cannot believe I am planning his first birthday party. But who am I kidding?! I live for this kind of thing!! I'm so pumped to be planning my very first child's birthday party, and am so excited about some of the little details I've come up with for his puppy party!
Ok, I spoke too soon. We are far from "back in commission" now. Things seemed to have taken a turn for the worse. On top of Carter's ear infection (which, thankfully, amoxicillin is helping with), I now have bronchitis and a sinus infection and Seth is having stomach issues.
To put it blantantly, we are a mess.
We are longing for the days of spring and fresh air - and, of course, the opportunity those two things will afford us to be outside and away from many of the germs we're encountering.
Prayers appreciated for this to be the last sicknesses for a long time. :)
I guess not entirely but Squirt's ears seem to be doing much better - he slept through the night Tuesday and last night. In fact, last night, I put him down early at 7:30 and I had to wake him up for daycare at 6:40. Little rascal, never sleeps that late on the weekends. :)
I'm playing in a volleyball tournament this weekend, so I hope he's doing okay so that I can enjoy myself while daddy and baby look on!
I feel like I should be reciting the Serenity Prayer right now. While crawling into the fetal position. Sucking my thumb. You know, if that gives you a good idea of how the last week has gone.
Sick, fussy, teething baby pulling on his ears and refusing to sleep. Up to my eyeballs with projects and deadlines at work. Arguing over stupid stuff with the husband due to aforementioned drama.
In Weight Watchers news (and there isn't much of it), I lost another .6 pounds. Which is by the shear grace of God because I didn't do a lick of tracking this week and I only worked out half-heartedly one day. So, I consider another .6 to be victory. I did not take my measurements. I did make one new recipe to meet one of my goals from last week. It was banana muffins with chocolate chips (WW-friendly, of course), and they were yummy. When my head stops spinning, I'll try to post a recipe.
In baby-land, Carter has an ear infection, which helps explain the madness that is the hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. We took him in to the doctor last Thursday for a check of his ears, but embarassingly enough, he had some wax which prevented them from fully seeing his eardrums (what's a mom to do?! They say no q-tips!). The doctor didn't give a whole lot of effort to getting it out but wanted to adopt a wait-and-see approach, telling me that if he developed a fever to bring him back because it is probably an ear infection. Lovely.
Enter Tuesday. Call from daycare that Carter has a fever. We returned to the doctor's office where we were assigned a lovely, wonderful doctor who perfectly cleaned out his ears in no time flat and declared that yes, he had an ear infection. We amoxicillin'd it up and had a splendid sleep-through-the-night kind of night. Ahhhh...but, no daycare today, so daddy is home with him.
Oh, and a tooth popped through overnight. With another about to.
Back to the fetal position.
I just called into the pediatrician's officer to ask a question about Carter's ear drops (to help remove some of the inner ear wax - ew, I know) and while I was on the phone, I asked her a few questions about milk, a few kinds of food, and crawling.
I was concerned because he seems to be so content with army crawling everywhere, and doesn't really like to stay on his knees to move (other than the time he went 2 "crawls" forward and then stopped). She told me that if he can army crawl from point A to point B to get something he is interested in (which is does ALL.DAY.LONG.) they consider him to be crawling. She said some babies are just so content with army crawling, they often go right to walking.
And, of course, I asked the whole "Don't they develop better reading skills if they go to their knees?" and she said to trust her, that even with army crawling, his brain is working in such a way that is STILL moving his arms back and forth as well as his lower body.
Just thought that was interesting...and I still don't consider him crawling 'til he does the knee thing. :)
Carter, at ten months, you:
- Weigh 26 lbs., 3 oz.
- Wear size 4 diapers - Wear a variety of sizes of clothing. You wear some 12 months (jeans, some onesies, and some tops) and some 18 months. Many of your size 12 pants still fit in the waist (no idea how!) but are way, way too short. You are tall!
- Are continuing to be more and more mobile. You are still not officially crawling yet but are soooo close. You army crawl like a champ, and get up on all fours all the time. You just still drop down to your belly to start moving. However, a few days ago, you moved your right knee forward once and your left knee forward once, so it was sort of a crawl. We won’t consider it official until you go a few feet though. Sorry, dude. :)
- Pull up and move along the coffee table, people’s legs, etc.
- Have adjusted to your new classroom at daycare like a champ. We love your new teachers...they said you are so affectionate, loving, happy, a good eater (we weren’t surprised), and a great napper. You even nap on a cot instead of a crib and they said you are such a big boy and go RIGHT to sleep and never try to get off. Mommy still gives you two naps a day on the weekend though, and thankfully, you’ve been able to go back and forth between one and two without any issues at all.
- Are in your big boy carseat in both cars now. You still had a few pounds to go in the infant seat but she said you were too long for it to be safe. Putting you in a rear-facing seat in a two-door car has been challenging, but hopefully we’ll be getting a new car soon that has more than two doors.
- Now only take one nap a day at daycare which mommy and daddy aren’t too happy about because you are too young for only one nap. But that is the way the daycare does it, so there is nothing we can do about it.
- Are sleeping okay at night. You still cry out occasionally (almost always in your sleep), but mommy and daddy try to stay away (unless we have guests or you seem like something is wrong) until the morning. We pretty much go to bed each night not knowing what to expect - a completely quiet night or one where you cry 10 times. You do still get up ridiculously early though – 6 a.m. most days, but earlier some days too. One of the nicest things though is that you can easily be put into your crib awake and you’ll lay down and go to sleep quickly and without fussing.
- Say "da-da” and “ma-ma” now.
- Were getting bored with bathtime so we added bubbles and some new toys to the mix. Mommy also got you some color tabs to make the water blue, red, and green, which I think you might like!
- Got your third tooth – with a fourth about to make its appearance any day now!
- Eat exclusively table foods. You pretty much eat just what we’re eating unless it is something too spicy or something like fish. You love veggies, fruit (in fact, we have to wait til your other food is gone before we give you fruit or else you’ll cry for more of the sweet stuff), most meats, cheese, yogurt…pretty much anything!
- You have begun the transition from bottle to exclusively sippy cup. At daycare, you can only have milk in a bottle once a day – the other times have to be from a sippy cup. Your teacher said you made the transition easily and like a pro. We keep up with that at home too so that you don’t get confused. You get a bottle at lunchtime and one before bed. You drink about 4-6.5 oz. for your daytime bottles (sometimes you just plain don’t even want it) and 8 oz. before bed. You only get a splash of juice every few days. You are also starting to like water.
- Started doing “soooo big” and putting your arms up when people ask how big you are. You also started waving. It is so cute (and backwards).
We can’t believe what a big boy you are already. It is hard to believe that you have been with us for longer than mommy was pregnant with you (which felt like a looong time), and that we’ll be planning your 1st birthday party soon. You are such a lovey and are the sweetest little boy. We love you, squirty.
So, last week I said it was time to kick it up a notch. I did, in fact. I tracked (wrote down everything I ate and its points plus value so that I always knew where I stood and how much I had left in any given day) all but 1 day, exercised frequently, and enjoyed my weekly allowance points for fun splurges like Italian dinner out complete with a split dessert with Seth.
I weighed myself every day which I know you shouldn't do. At one point, I was down 4 pounds from what I was last Wednesday. But today is the day that counts. All in all, I lost 2.6 pounds this week. As far as measurements, some went up which I don't understand??? Seth thought it was maybe his measuring this time. My favorite measurement was a 1 inch loss in my bust.
This makes my total weight loss 9 pounds.
My goals for this week are to track at least 6 days again, make 1 new recipe, and work out at least 4 days again. We bought a new medicine ball this week for increased upper body tonage.
