I was up by about 7 a.m. on Monday which I expected. I was so excited to get out to the beach! We had read in a lot of reviews that if you don't reserve chairs under an umbrella by 8 a.m. you won't get shade all day because butlers reserve them for their clients. So we ran some towels and magazines down to a seat and headed to breakfast at Spices, the buffet on the resort. It was good! We were firmly planted at our seats by about 8:30 a.m. HA! We decided to take a walk and check things out. The water in the Bahamas is so beautiful. Perfectly crystal clear and still.
I mean seriously, LOOK AT THAT WATER! If you know me at all, you know I hate the ocean but not in the Caribbean. I'll swim in Caribbean water all day!
Some local vendors came on property today and immediately, I saw a precious little straw purse that said "Bahamas" and flip flops embroidered on it. The woman wanted $14 but we got it for $12. We couldn't find anything for Carter, but we have several days to look! :)
We bought a waterproof cover for our phones so we got it out to play with a little bit. It worked okay but was certainly nothing special.
We went to the Windsor pool on this day which is the livelier of the large pools. The playmakers (what they call the entertainment people) pick on you out of the crowd to play games, do crazy things, and so forth. We sat toward the back but did get picked for a few games (which we didn't win). It was SO HOT while we were there (like mid to high 90s + humidity). The employees said it was not their normal temperature and that they were in a heat wave. PHEW. I couldn't imagine dealing with that every day. I took two books and didn't read any of either one because we literally could not be out of the water long enough to get much of anything read.
Above, our building. We were in the lower left unit. Below, the view toward our "back yard," the fenced in space that contained the soaking tub.
Around 2 p.m., we headed to our couples massage, which was heavenly. They had gorgeous facilities and we had an hour-long massage side by side. After the massage, we were given the opportunity to use their beautiful spa facilities to shower, sit in the sauna, etc. Seth shaved there (LOL - I was waiting for him for like 20 minutes after I was done and a spa worker said "Oh your husband is back there enjoying the facilities. He's shaving." I was like "Oh my gosh, what?!?!" HAHA) :)
We then went back out to the pool for a bit until we felt like we might be getting a bit too much sun. So we came back to the room and used the outdoor tub as a pool with ice cold water to cool down. AHHH. Later, we headed to the manager's welcome reception where they had dancers and traditional Bahamian culture type things.
For dinner, we went to the pub on the resort that did not need reservations. Seth got wings for an appetizer and I got these truffle mac and cheese bites. Oh my goodness were they good!!! For dinner, Seth had pulled pork and I had shepherd's pie which was just so-so.
While we were there, the Bahamas was celebrating its independence from the UK 43 years ago. On Monday night, they had a Junkanoo street party with some WILD dancers, very loud music, flame throwers, limbo contests, etc. It was basically an introvert's nightmare. Seth insisted on sitting at the front, which means OF COURSE we'd get picked to do all the embarrassing things like play the cow bells and so forth. I was so annoyed he made us sit there by the end of the night. They ALWAYS pick on the woman to come do things; never the man! HA!
After I talked him out of the crazy Junkanoo party, we headed to sit on the pier for awhile and just relax. I mean seriously, look at this view!! Dreamy...
